It could happen. Heck, in today's NFL anything can happen -- and usually does. Situations such as this are rare indeed, which is why we can allow ourselves to dream of the Raiders and 49ers both reaching the Super Bowl. Everybody was talking about it when the Raiders moved back to Oakland before the 1995 season, but the hype was short-lived. When the 49ers were good the Raiders were awful. The 49ers' decline coincided with the Raiders' re-emergence.
The Oakland Raiders were playing for something more important than a three-game lead in the AFC West or the opportunity to hurt the New York Giants' playoffs chances.

Raiders Handle Giants 28-10
The Oakland Raiders improved to 8-2 on the regular season with 28-10 victory on the road against the New York Giants. QB Rich Gannon threw three touchdown passes including two to WR Tim Brown. RB Charlie Garner caught a screen pass for a TD and RB Zack Crockett added a 2-yard TD plunge.
They were playing for family yesterday - linebacker William Thomas.
Thomas' half-brother, Derwin Wooten, died unexpectedly on Friday in Amarillo, Texas, and the Raiders dedicated their 28-10 victory over the Giants to Thomas.
What made the performance so inspiring was Thomas himself.
After leaving the team Friday to be with his family, he showed up yesterday morning for the team meal. Thomas then went out and had a team-high eight tackles and three assists.
"He would have wanted me to play," Thomas said of his brother. "I dedicated the game to him. The coach gave me the game ball. I'm going to take it and my jersey and send it off with him."
Gannon said Thomas' return was a big boost to the Raiders.
"He's a guy going through a very difficult time who has two families," said Gannon. "He had an obligation to his family, obviously. He also felt deep down inside that he had a obligation to us."
"What Willie did was one of the most inspiring, emotional things I have ever seen as a coach," coach Jon Gruden of the Raiders said. "He really inspired a lot of other players, me included, and hopefully a lot of other people. He showed a lot of great character today."
Collins spent half the game running for his life from the "Wrecking Crew" Raider Defense in the rain. Gruden is 1-0 in his career against the Giants, while Fassel is 0-1 versus Oakland.
Raiders kicked the crap out of the Chargers again!
Oakland improves to 7-2 with another victory over San Diego by 10-points, 34-24 last Sunday Night on ESPN in front of a sold-out crowd at Network Associates Coliseum- where Jerry Rice and the Oakland Raiders just dominated every which way they could.
The Chargers trailed by seven points. They had the ball at their 33-yard line, two minutes left in the game and a quarterback with a long history of leading improbable comebacks at the helm.
The magic slipped through Chargers quarterback Doug Flutie's hands this time, along with the ball, as Raiders linebacker William Thomas sealed the victory by recovering Flutie's fumble. The Raiders prevailed 34-24 at Network Associates Coliseum.
"We hadn't (forced) a turnover all day," Thomas said. "We were close. At some point in time, I knew one was going to come. You need to make plays like that to win games like this."
The Raiders improved to 7-2 and stretched their lead in the AFC West to two games. The Seattle Seahawks are now in second, with the Chargers and Denver Broncos 21/2 games back.
The Raiders also distanced themselves from the bitter taste of a 34-27 loss to the Seahawks a week earlier and re-established themselves as a team on a mission.
"It's the second half," wide receiver Jerry Rice said. "This is where you pick it up."
Hey Canaryboys, "Take it in the tail-pipe like you always do!"
Monday Night Mayhem!
The Silver & Black attack was too much for Denver's weak Defense last Monday Night, nobody could stop Rich Gannon, Tim Brown, Charlie Garner and the Oakland Offense. Raiders win 38-28 and are #1 in the NFL when the Refs are off the field, who's your daddy in the AFC West!
